Commands that hold up outside the living room
A dog that listens at home and forgets everything on a busy Jersey Shore sidewalk does not have reliable obedience yet. Our private lesson packages build it in order: the core commands first, then loose leash walking, then the harder work of holding a command while the world goes by. You are in every lesson, because you are the one who has to hold the standard after we leave. If you would rather your dog do the intensive work first and come home already fluent, look at our board and train programs.
What obedience lessons cover
The core commands
Come, sit, extended sit, down, extended down, place and extended place, taught until they stick.
Loose leash walking
The heel your dog needs so walks stop being a tug of war and start being a walk.
Everyday manners
Off, so the jumping, the counter surfing and the door bolting stop being your problem.
Duration and distraction
Holding a command while something more interesting is happening a few feet away.
You get coached too
Every lesson teaches you the handling, timing and follow through, so the results last.

What Jersey Shore dog owners say
"Great experience. My biggest fear is always losing my dog because someone left a door or gate open, or losing him while camping/ hiking somewhere. After training with Off-Leash K9, I feel much more confident that Stormy will come when I call him in any situation."
"It is truly a pleasure to go on walks with him now that he no longer pulls or chases squirrels and other dogs. His behavior at home has also improved significantly, and overall we have a much happier dog, and very happy owners."
"We loved the care and training our standard poodles received! We are so pleased with their behavior at home and traveling! Walking is a breeze now with both of them!"
Obedience training questions
What does the basic obedience package cover?
Basic Obedience is 4 private lessons. Lesson 1 covers come, sit and extended sit. Lesson 2 covers place and extended place. Lesson 3 is heel and loose leash walking. Lesson 4 covers down and extended down. Off, for correcting unwanted behavior, runs through the whole package. The e-collar and training leash are included.
What is the difference between the 4 lesson and 6 lesson packages?
The Basic and Advanced Obedience package is 6 private lessons. The first 4 are the same basic obedience curriculum, and the final 2 are built around your specific goals, whether that is advanced commands, environmental distractions, therapy dog preparation or owner education. There is also a separate Advanced Lessons package of 6 sessions covering agility foundations, focus and confidence work, for dogs that have already completed basic obedience.
How old does my dog need to be for obedience lessons?
Private lessons are for dogs 20 weeks and older, which is about five months. If your puppy is younger than that, start with our puppy programs instead, then move into obedience once your pup is old enough.
Where do the lessons take place?
We agree the training location with you when you book. As a rule we prefer not to run lessons inside your house. It is easy for a dog to listen in the one place it already feels completely comfortable. Training in less familiar places, with real distractions around, is what makes the commands hold up when you need them.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Payment plans are available. Call us today to learn more about payment options.
