Off Leash K9 Training, Jersey Shore is rated 5.0 stars across 95 Google reviews, and trains dogs from Freehold and Monmouth County.
Freehold owners drive to us, and they do it often enough that Monmouth County is one of the areas our owner names first. Our facility is at 333 Atlantic City Blvd in Bayville. For a board and train that is two trips in two or three weeks, which is why the immersive programs are the popular choice from this end of the county. Private lessons are available too, for dogs 20 weeks and older.
Why professional training is essential for Freehold dog owners
Behavior modification
Resolve jumping, pulling, barking, anxiety, and reactivity at the root, not just the symptom.
Safety & control
A dog that listens the first time is a safer dog around traffic, trails, water, and people.
Stronger bond
Clear communication builds trust, so your dog looks to you for direction instead of guessing.
Long-term results
We transfer the skills to you at pickup, so the obedience holds long after training ends.
Family harmony
A calm, well-mannered dog means a calmer home for kids, guests, and other pets alike.

Built for how Freehold dogs actually live
Freehold is two places at once and dogs feel it. There is the borough, walkable and busy around the downtown, and then there is the township, with the county parks, the horse farms and the open ground out toward Turkey Swamp. A dog that behaves on the trail at East Freehold has still never been asked to hold a place command outside a coffee shop on Main Street.
Then there is the mall. Freehold Raceway Mall and the Route 9 corridor mean crowds, carts, automatic doors and other dogs, all at once, and that is the environment most of our Freehold clients actually want to be able to handle. Training that only works in a quiet backyard does not help you there.
This is also horse and open space country, which brings its own problem: a dog with a strong chase drive and a lot of room to use it. A recall that holds when a deer breaks cover is not a nice extra out here, it is the whole point.

Jennifer Cattonar owns and runs Off Leash K9 Training, Jersey Shore out of the Bayville facility. A New Jersey native, she came to dog training after raising her own family and now travels to K9 training seminars around the country to keep the team's methods current. She believes every dog is trainable and every one deserves a fair chance, and the puppy board and train programs are the work she enjoys most.
Dog training service areas near Freehold
We train dogs from across Monmouth County as well as Ocean County. Our facility is in Bayville, and Freehold owners most often choose a board and train so the drive is two trips rather than a weekly commute.
What Freehold dog owners say
“My now 6 year old vizsla original trained with a K-9 Off Leash in CA at 12 month old… when we recently moved to NJ and Rip did not acclimate well, he seemed to ignore boundaries and commands that had been well established, I reached out to Jay and Jennifer for reinforcement training. He was with them for a week and he came back the happy, healthy, well behaved dog he had been before the move.”
“Thank you to Off Leash K-9 Training for allowing us to break the barriers of communication with our boy. We can now allow for a lifetime of walks, guests at our home, and a peaceful family unit. We will be back with all future dogs!”
“My 7mo lab pup spent 2 weeks with Off Leash K9 Training, Jersey Shore the beginning of June and it still amazes me how well he listens to the commands! Jennifer and Jason were super supportive and communicated with us for the full 2 weeks our pup was with them… His entire temperament has change for the best and we feel like we have control over our very hyper lab!”
Frequently asked questions
Freehold is a drive. Is that a problem?
It is the normal way Monmouth County owners work with us. Our facility is at 333 Atlantic City Blvd in Bayville, and most Freehold clients choose a board and train, which means one trip to drop off and one to pick up with your turnover session at the end, rather than a weekly drive for lessons. Private lessons are still an option if you would rather be hands on every week.
Do you come to my house for lessons in Freehold?
No. Our private lessons are not run inside your house. Our own FAQ page says it plainly: contact your local Off Leash K9 certified trainer for the location of their training, because generally we do not like to train dogs inside the house. Lessons happen where your dog has to behave in real life, and board and train dogs stay with their trainer for the whole program.
How old does my dog need to be to start?
Private lessons and our standard board and train programs start at 20 weeks old, which is about five months. Younger puppies have their own track: the one and two week puppy board and train programs are for pups 8 to 20 weeks old, and the Puppy Hybrid Program bridges the gap with puppy lessons now and a two week e-collar board and train once your pup reaches 20 weeks.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. Payment plans are available. Call us today at (848) 221-5161 to learn more about payment options. Lesson packages and board and train programs include an e-collar and a training leash, and every price is listed on our plans and pricing page.
