Local dog training you can trust

Off Leash K9 Training, Jersey Shore is rated 5.0 stars across 95 Google reviews, and trains dogs from Toms River and Ocean County.

Toms River is the biggest town we serve and the closest to our doors. Our facility sits at 333 Atlantic City Blvd in Bayville, just south of you, so a Toms River owner can drop a dog for a two week board and train, come back for the turnover session, and be home the same afternoon. We run private lessons for dogs 20 weeks and older, board and train programs from one to three weeks, and a separate puppy track for pups 8 to 20 weeks old.

Why it matters

Why professional training is essential for Toms River dog owners

Behavior modification

Resolve jumping, pulling, barking, anxiety, and reactivity at the root, not just the symptom.

Safety & control

A dog that listens the first time is a safer dog around traffic, trails, water, and people.

Stronger bond

Clear communication builds trust, so your dog looks to you for direction instead of guessing.

Long-term results

We transfer the skills to you at pickup, so the obedience holds long after training ends.

Family harmony

A calm, well-mannered dog means a calmer home for kids, guests, and other pets alike.

Training in Toms River

Built for how Toms River dogs actually live

Toms River dogs get tested by the water. Between Cattus Island, the river itself and the bay beaches, most walks here happen somewhere with birds, boats, joggers and other dogs all in view at once. A dog that heels perfectly on a quiet street can come apart in that, which is why our training moves outside as soon as the commands are solid.

The other Toms River problem is traffic and people. Route 37, the Hooper Avenue shopping strip and downtown near Huddy Park put your dog nose to nose with strangers, carts, kids and delivery vans. Door manners, a reliable place command and a dog that does not bolt through an open door matter more here than any trick.

And this is a family town. Most of the dogs we take from Toms River live with kids, a second dog or an older relative in the house. Jumping, counter surfing and door charging are the calls we get, and they are exactly what the board and train programs are built around.

What Toms River dog owners say

“Great experience. My biggest fear is always losing my dog because someone left a door or gate open, or losing him while camping/ hiking somewhere. After training with Off-Leash K9, I feel much more confident that Stormy will come when I call him in any situation.”

Kerrianne ReuterVerified Google review

“I used Jennifer at Off Leash K9 Training for the board and train program for my 1-year old Lab, and the results were incredible. Before training, he was constantly jumping and pulling on the leash to the point where walks had become really difficult/dangerous. After just two weeks, he came back like a completely different dog - happy, calm, and reliably following commands.”

Kate McKennaVerified Google review

“This place is a real down to earth and functional training facility. No tricks no gimmicks just real training with real results. They put in the effort to make sure you and your dog are setup to succeed.”

Frequently asked questions

How far is your training facility from Toms River?

We are at 333 Atlantic City Blvd in Bayville, just south of Toms River, so you are looking at a short drive rather than a trip. Board and train dogs stay with us for the whole program and you come back at the end for a one on one turnover session where we hand the commands over to you.

Do you come to my house for lessons in Toms River?

No. Our private lessons are not run inside your house. Our own FAQ page says it plainly: contact your local Off Leash K9 certified trainer for the location of their training, because generally we do not like to train dogs inside the house. Lessons happen where your dog has to behave in real life, and board and train dogs stay with their trainer for the whole program.

How old does my dog need to be to start?

Private lessons and our standard board and train programs start at 20 weeks old, which is about five months. Younger puppies have their own track: the one and two week puppy board and train programs are for pups 8 to 20 weeks old, and the Puppy Hybrid Program bridges the gap with puppy lessons now and a two week e-collar board and train once your pup reaches 20 weeks.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Payment plans are available. Call us today at (848) 221-5161 to learn more about payment options. Lesson packages and board and train programs include an e-collar and a training leash, and every price is listed on our plans and pricing page.
